Instructions
The instructions for changing your template are the same as ever.
To review those, please click here.
To enable your template for selling on the internet, please
do the following.
- Copy your files to your Windows server as normal.
- Open the file db_conn_open.asp in a text editor such as
notepad. You need to set the connection string to point
to the location of your database. Please note that for security
reasons it is best to have the database under the web root.
Most hosts provide for this. If this is not possible then
make sure the directory the database is in is writeable
but not "browseable" so that you can make updates
and people cannot copy your database from the web. Again,
your host can help you with this.
- After making changes to your template design in the normal
manner, just add a link in your site to the page categories.asp
and the rest is taken care of automatically.
Using the store admin section.
- Firstly, open the page admin.asp in a web browser. The
default username and password is mystore and changeme but
these should be changed as soon as possible for security
reasons.
- After changing your password, the next step is to go to
the "Edit Admin Sections" link. Here you need
to fill in your email address, which is the one which is
associated with your PayPal account. This will automatically
be included in the code for the product "Buy"
buttons.
- Then enter the URL of the directory you have used
for the store template. If this is in the web root for instance,
just enter the web site URL for instance http://www.myweb.com
or if in a sub directory, the web plus directory name, for
instance http://www.myweb.com/mydirectory
- Next enter the number of products you want to show per page.
The default is 8, but you can set this to as many or as
few as you like.
- Next click on the "Edit Categories" link from
the admin home page. Here you can edit the product categories
and category descriptions.
- Finally, you can now add your products and assign them to
the categories you have set up.
That's it ! ! You are now ready to start selling on the web.
New categories will automatically show in the categories.asp
page you have linked to, and new products will automatically
show in the products pages, ready to sell.
One point of interest, if your new product categories don't
show when you add them it's probably because there are no
products assigned to them yet. This is a feature of the system.
Customization
You can probably make all the changes you need to this template
yourself but if you require any custom work or professional
